Golfing stars wowed by Giza Pyramids ahead of International Series Egypt

November 8, 2022 – Cairo:
Some of the best golfers in the world soaked up some breathtaking culture and ancient history with a visit to the world-famous Giza Pyramids in Cairo ahead of the International Series Egypt, the $1.5 million tournament which marks the Asian Tour’s first ever visit to the country.

American star Sihwan Kim, Canada’s Richard T. Lee and Jeunghun Wang of Korea visited the iconic site on Tuesday morning along with local golfing star Issa Abou El Ela, in a special pre-tournament trip arranged with the Egyptian Golf Federation and the Ministry of Tourism. During the tour, the players learned about the history behind the pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza located in the site.

“It is a real honour to bring the players to Egypt to learn about the rich history and culture that this country has,” said Issa. “Bringing them here was very special. Hosting some of the best players in the region and the world is a very special moment for Egypt and I look forward to playing the International Series Egypt, an important milestone in the development of golf in the country.”

“This country has an incredible history and culture, and it was a very special morning for us to attend this tour,” said Kim, the No.3 player in the International Series Order of Merit. “After playing Morocco last week, I look forward to playing my second International Series event in North Africa.”

Lee, who finished runner-up to Jazz Janewattananond in Morocco last week, added: “We have been very privileged to visit the ancient site at Giza, it is one of the most famous and well-known historic sites in the world and this tour gave us a real sense of this wonderful country.” Of his own form, he added: “Hopefully after coming so close last week I can go one better at Madinaty Golf Club.”

Wang, who finished T23 last week at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salaam, added: “It is so good to be here in Egypt playing a historic International Series event. My form is good, and I want to take it to the next level at the Madinaty, a special course. International Series events are very important for us as players, the series gives us a platform to play top-level golf and compete in a strong field.”

The International Series Egypt takes place from November 10-13 at Madinaty Golf Club, in Cairo and entrance to the event is free. For further details please visit: asiantour.com.
